Binkley Surname Origins
Binggeli is a Swiss name. Following the death of his father, Christian, Peter Binggeli, born 1704 in Guggisberg (Canton of Bern), moved to Alsace, France in 1717. [1] In Alsace, the name was spelled Binckele and this spelling continues through the church records in German in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and North Carolina. In 1725, Peter married and began what would become a large family. [2] In 1736, Peter took his family, and along with other "Awakened" families, immigrated to the New World. After arriving in Philadelphia, in September of 1736, Peter and his family settled in Pennsylvania. In 1748, his wife, Anna Maria, died. She had given birth to 14 children. Peter remarried in 1749, and continued to add to his family. Peter became a member of the Moravian Church in 1750. In 1772, The family moved to the Moravian settlement of Wachovia in North Carolina. By the end of his life, he had fathered 23 children. [1].
The Binkley spelling starts to appear in the North Carolina civil records, which were in English, in the late 1700s. Moravian records for Peter are consistently Binckele, but his children and more often, his grandchildren, became known as Binkley.
The records of the ship that brought Peter and his family to America, record the name as Pinkley, Pinkelie, Binckley, Pinckly, Bingly, Binckly, and Pinckley [3]

That list was mainly for in the beginning before our categories were all set up. Many of us have been so focused in this or other projects that we didn't maintain the project page very well. - Summer
So....We ARE allowed to use both names in the Proper first name field. I am perfectly fine with it since we received their blessing!!!!
